How this estimate works
- Zakat is 2.5% of wealth that has reached the nisab and been held for one lunar year.
- The nisab here is the value of 85 grams of pure gold. Some scholars use the silver nisab, which is lower.
- Scholars differ on jewellery worn regularly and on shares held for the long term. This estimate counts shares at full market value, the simplest and most cautious method.
