UAE-listed shares (DFM and ADX) are not screened yet: their filings and prices are not in the current data plan.
How the screen works
- Business activity: a company whose primary SEC industry is conventional banking, lending, brokerage, insurance, alcohol, tobacco or weapons fails. Property trusts need a scholar's review of their tenants and leases.
- Debt and cash: interest-bearing debt, and cash with interest-bearing securities, must each be below 30% of market value (all shares outstanding times the latest price). When a company does not list its debt separately, total liabilities, which include any debt, below 30% also pass.
- Income: interest income must be below 5% of revenue, both from the same fiscal year.
- A company passes only when activity, debt and cash all pass on reported figures. A missing figure never counts as a pass.
Other screens (S&P, MSCI, FTSE, and individual scholars) use different rules and may classify a company differently. The activity check uses the company's primary SEC industry, so secondary activities, such as defence work at an aircraft-engine maker, are not seen. Figures are read from the labels companies use in their filings; a company that files a line under an unusual label shows “Not enough data” rather than a guess.
